Our turf & artificial grass service

Real turf needs a firm, level, weed-free bed of decent topsoil to root into, so the old lawn is stripped, the ground is levelled and raked out, and the turf is laid tight with staggered joints and no gaps at the edges. Artificial grass needs a compacted stone base, a laying course, a membrane and restrained edges, because the whole surface is only as flat as what is under it. Both are set to fall away from the house, and both need the drainage looking at first if the ground is holding water.

Our process

How it works

  1. 01

Tell us what you want to change

Call, message or send the form. Photos of the garden as it stands now are the fastest way for us to understand the job.

  2. 02

    We visit and take levels

We look at levels, drainage, access and what is already there, then talk through what is realistic in the space and the budget.

  3. 03

    You get a written quote

Each part of the work is priced separately, so you can see what the paving costs against the turf, the fencing or the walls.

  4. 04

    We book a start date

We agree a date, confirm access for machinery and skips, and let you know how long the garden will be out of use.

  5. 05

    We finish and clear up

Waste goes, the site is swept, and we hand over anything you need to know about looking after new turf or planting.

Why choose us

Why choose us for turf & artificial grass

  • A family-run team, so you deal with the people doing the work rather than a call centre.
  • The groundwork goes in before the surface, which is what decides how long the job lasts.
  • Driveways, paving, walls, fencing and turf are all in-house, so the levels and finishes line up.
  • A written price with the materials named, so you can compare it properly.

What affects the price

No two jobs price the same. These are the things that move it most:

  • Lawn area and the shape, which drives how much cutting is needed
  • How much of the existing ground has to come out
  • Imported topsoil where levels have to be raised
  • Turf grade, or the pile and quality of the artificial grass
  • Drainage work where the ground holds water
  • Edging, and whether a border course goes round the lawn

FAQs

Turf & Artificial Grass FAQs

Turf or artificial grass?

Real turf is cheaper to lay and it is a living lawn, but it needs mowing, feeding and watering, and it struggles in heavy shade or on ground that stays wet. Artificial grass costs more up front and stays green and usable all year, including in the spots where real grass never takes.

How soon can we walk on new turf?

Keep off it while it roots. We will tell you how long on the day and what the watering needs to be in the first couple of weeks, because that is what decides whether it takes.

Does artificial grass drain?

Yes, through perforations in the backing into the stone base underneath, which is why the base matters as much as the grass. If the ground below holds water the base has to be dealt with first.
